Why You Should Avoid Drugs for Back Pain

Shoreview, MN chiropractic back pain treatmentChiropractic is centered on the philosophy of allowing your body to naturally heal through spinal adjustments and lifestyle changes that encourage wellness. For Dr. Jane Steffen Bye, this involves working to reestablish your body's normal performance to prevent the need for drugs or surgical treatments. We find that many of our Shoreview, MN patients are pleased to find a natural approach for their health conditions.

One benefit of chiropractic is that it helps people reduce or even eliminate the use of drugs. Prescriptions are oftentimes supplied to patients who have back pain. This is such a serious crisis that the American Academy of Neurology (AAN) issued a press release stating that opioid (painkiller) dangers outweigh the benefits when prescribed for back pain.

Some of the most popular opiates, according to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, include hydrocodone (Vicodin), oxycodone (OxyContin and Percocet), morphine, and codeine. Numbers offered by the AAN cite the fact that roughly 50% of the people taking these drugs for a period of three months are still on them five years later. This can further complicate the difficulty of back pain and recovery, particularly if an narcotic addiction occurs.

Contrast that to chiropractic which features natural healing and the advantages are obvious. While a pill might be useful at briefly reducing the symptoms of a health problem, it's not a real solution to the problem. A drug won't fix your damaged spine; it will only cover up the pain.

Dr. Jane Steffen Bye will first examine you to get to the root of your back problems and then work with you to correct the problem -- without risky medications.

If you're ready for relief, naturally, give our Shoreview, MN office a call at (651) 483-4040 to make an appointment with Dr. Jane Steffen Bye.
